This is exactly the kind of corruption Kamala Harris had experience to handle, and had plans to handle had she been elected.

She was going to listen to her Rich Donor Class in Silicon Valley and send Lina Khan - the only person in that Administration who actually seemed to give a damn about the working class- packing.

Thank you for this explanation. This is the first time I have seen a fluent, coherent explanation of this shortage.

Oh my goodness. Thank you, Lucas, for sharing this. While I try to stay on top of the news and current events, I am appalled that the details you share here seem to have been kept under wraps.

High egg prices? Avian flu. That's that. But it isn't. Your post is an eye opener and an ire raiser. Oh, if only the word got out beyond your subscribers....

I, for one, would like to know why an entire flock is culled when only a few birds are discovered with the flu? It stands to reason that euthanizing the entire population will also eliminate any birds that had natural immunity! Your article illustrates how greed corrupts and as always the hardest working low income people are hurt the most.

Just like us, some animals don't get sick, but they do carry and spread the virus. How do you detect which ones? You can't.

THANKS. Really helpful, really informative. Unfortunately rather discouraging. I'm afraid that I don't see prospects in the short-term or, given the mindsets of I think too many people in the mid-term either, for resuscitation of trust-busting. But it's critical for us to learn, as Lucas' article describes, what is bona fide central and what is convenient camouflage. Looking forward to further installments.

Yeah, OK! However, I thought Trump promised to fix all of this -- on day one! Hmm? He made a lot of promises for that day one. He lied!

It takes about two months for chicks to reach maturity with our current GMO chickens--and yet ti will be eighteen to twenty four months before the flocks return. Sounds majorly fishy. There's a whole lot of chicks at Tractor Supply for those who are interested. There's also egg replacement at Fresh Thyme.

This unfortunately just adds to the general depression I have about the stranglehold corporations have on our country. Profit and more wealth for the shareholders and the wealthy who can afford the eggs, and artificially created impoverished reality for the rest of us. I used to be able to rely on eggs as an affordable source of protein. Not anymore.

Another amazing, revealing post. Very well written. Also amazingly detailed in its research. I admit that I've gotten lazy about reading posts of this length -- but it was good enough that I refrained from skimming... In grad school I was poor enough that I kept laying chickens. May have to do that again, to counter monopoly capitalism.

This is just an example of rich people taking advantage of the middle class. Same ol' story. Until these billionaires are afraid to do bad things, they will do bad things. Period. Decency, compassion, empathy and all that other liberal stuff doesn't sway them one bit. The only thing they respond to is fear, fear of losing their life, fear of losing their lifestyle, fear of losing their power over others. They've already bought the government so don't rely on them to fix it.

Thanks Lucas! So glad you read Matt Stoller's work. Capitalism is only efficient when there are referee's to keep the playing field level. And yes, that would be government, who the egg and all other cartels spend billions of dollars in annual contributions to organizations that brainwash Americans into believing that "government" is bad.

Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer;

You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’

“If you take away the yoke from your midst,

The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,

If you extend your soul to the hungry

And satisfy the afflicted soul,

Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,

And your darkness shall be as the noonday.

Is 58:8-10

Do we EVER NEED some crying out and light in this country NOW!.

We are descending to hell

, day by day, with no respite because the wickedness of tRump, his minions and puppets have full reign.
