Hello! Keep up your efforts, please. You are sorely needed. And don't forget that time works wonders, and you may turn out to be anything but boring. People used to think nerds weren't cool, and look how wrong they turned out to be! It just took a little time.
What a great letter, Lucas. The enlightened folks in MO are grieving your loss as much as we are grieving Kamala’s. It’s a double whammy of pain and heartache to know what could have been, and to see what has happened. And, I agree, I don’t know how you stopped yourself from punching the most punchable face in politics when he stuck it in your face. I hate that smarmy dweeb. You showed a lot of maturity and restraint. Some of my happiest moments in 2024 were attending your rally’s—they filled me with hope for a better future. What a loss.
"Citizens United" was and still is a critical decision which has allowed the Oligarchy to purchase power. It allows them to do so anonymously which increases their power and protects them from consequences. As a result our Republic and Constitution are at risk.
The political power of the Supremes has shaped our democracy into an oligarchy! Lucas, the only way back to a broad based institution is to mobilize college educated 18 to 29s plus thoughtful high school seniors in carefully selected metropolitan areas to register and vote! J represents what is politically possible in 2028 with a step in the right direction in 2026. The only nonpartisan organization that represents this approach is www.TurnUp.US which I wholeheartedly have supported! Please join us? You know how to contact me. Thank you.
Don't overlook young people in rural areas. Their schools are being underfunded so they are missing many opportunities of young people in metropolitan areas. Read Jess Piper's Substack to understand rural areas.
Master Plan podcast from David Sirota’s The Lever news outlet lays out the the history of how we got to Citizens United beginning in the Nixon era. Check it out!
Lucas, I supported you despite living in another state. I saw your interview on Steve Schmidt's podcast, and I was so impressed with you and your story. Thank you for your service. Losing is never easy no matter what the circumstances. I'm no stranger to that game. I hope that you will never give up the fight. You will make an awesome politician the next time around because you care deeply about family and the United States of America—that's evident.
The letter from J was heartwarming and inspiring. We all know that Putin's disinformation campaign has one objective: "crush hope". Let's prove him wrong—that it's not possible to kill our spirit! Onward and united in saving democracy.
I had to smile when I read your fan is 17 years old. I am 70 now but I was also energized by politics when I was 17. It was 1972 and Watergate was coming to a head. I subscribed to NEWSWEEK with my allowance and read all the news I could get my hands on. I turned 18 in September. The voting age had just been lowered to 18 to allow the boys who were getting shipped off to Viet Nam to have a say in our government since it was directly impacting their future. So I prepared for the election and studied who was running for all the offices on the ballot. This was harder to access without an internet! We had good newspapers then. When election day came, I went to the polling place and marked my ballot to vote for George McGovern, the Democrat who was running against the criminal, Richard Nixon. History repeats itself or at least rhymes. This election had at the same energy.
Keep voting, young man!
Keep running Lucas!
Our time will come.
BTW, I lived in a rural county near Kansas City and after the election all the totals were published in the local paper. I was one of four people in the county who voted for McGovern. My dad's best friend asked me who I voted for and I told him. He said "Good!" and that he had too. So we made up half the McGovern votes. I never found out who the other two were. Again, history rhymes.
Ending Citizens United is a must. While seems impossible in the short term, building coalitions to get there is important. Need to push to ban congressional stock trading . End gerrymandered districts making them accountable to the people when they are just safeguarded. Only about 15% are even competitive. Ethics that’s actually enforceable against Supreme Court. The corruption their is just ridiculous.
These are uphill battles, but fights worth having.
Also need to start pushing for representatives that we want like Lucas. Politicians aren’t abstract beings , just people, and we as apart of the citizenry need to vote or not vote for those put forth.
Again, as a guy in Texas in a gerrymandered district represented by the disgraceful Troy Nehls, I completely understand the tough road ahead. Door knocking, letters, outreach, calls etc and couldn’t even crack 40%. Sad, knocked down, but brushing the dust off and getting back in the ring.
Keep up the great work Lucas. Keeps me excited and hopeful and ready to push for the change we want and deserve
Great post, Lucas. Glad you inspired that young man. Now, I believe that the time is ripe to start a new political party, one that is not tied to corporate interests. Bernie Sanders has had it right all along. He is past the age to ever run for President again, but I’ll wager he could help set up this Party. There are plenty of young Democrats like you, Lucas who could make it happen. Imagine having a Party that believes everyone deserves healthcare as a right. FDR believed it. And he was elected 4 times. It’s a hard task but within the ranks of Democrats and Independents it can be done! Please think about it. Following is a link to my Substack, I’d be honored if you check it out. Thanks.
What an eloquent writer he is. He is also very perceptive. Keep up the good work Lucas. Wish you could join the great people NC voters chose to lead them; Josh Stein governor, Jeff Jackson Attorney General and Mo Green state superintendent of schools. We didn’t do so well other places though. Good luck on your future endeavors to actually make our country better.
Wonderful letter J. I think the senatorial election came down to $$$. Hearing that you didn't have the funds to reach smaller markets just makes me furious. You had a great and positive message for all Missourians, and yes, your opponent has a 'punchable face'
Thank you for your service and also for your determination to be the change you wish to see in our country! I also donated to your campaign despite living in another state because my daughter and her family live in MO. Keep up the good work. You and Jess Piper inspire me!
Like you, I didn't live in Missouri, but donated to Lucas. Most of our political donations went to out of state candidates, all Dems, of course! In Idaho, the future is quite bleak for everyone but the wealthy. We don't give up, but it is hard not to.
I voted for you and like J, I was devastated that you lost. I agree with J on another point, Josh Hawley is an ass and needs to be punched in the face regularly. Thank you for sharing this letter. We desperately need young people like J. With folks like you, Jess Piper and Michele Hornish, we can get rid of the useless crooks in MO government.
“The most punchable face in politics.”
Thank you, J.
And thank you, Lucas, for your self-control and not punching down.
thank you for sharing this letter. I hope this young individual runs for office one day, providing we still have elections.
I would like to, but I am a pretty boring and anti-social kid, doubt I'd get the support in a deep deep red state

The "enlightened folks" in MO, yes! Unfortunately our numbers seem to be dwindling
Actually St Joseph had far more enlightened yard signs than in the past.
Yes, same around here. That didn't transfer to votes however.

The guy is right about Hawley! He does have a face just for punching and he certainly is an overbearing ASS!
J is awesome.

Keep those values, and your determination! That bright youngster will be voting next time, and carrying the torch for decades.

Sounds like a great kid. Which gives me more hope for the future with so many feelings of despair running rampant in my head alone.
