I met a lot of elected officials running for the US Senate, but none of them impressed me more than St. Louis County Councilwoman, and current County Council Chairwoman, Shalonda Webb.
Her dedication to St. Louis County and its residents, particularly those whose voices are the least noticed, is unmatched. I’ve said it before, but she is the hardest working public servant I’ve ever met. The first time I saw her speak at a town hall was one of the most humbling moments for me on the campaign trail—she not only inspired me to be better, but fired me up to do some real work! Before I knew it I was back in her district doing a community clean-up in Castle Point.
I say all this because, in my MLK post this year (“Please do not think we think you are not important, but…it is just not fiscally responsible to set up a polling place”), I closed by saying that I hoped she would try bigger things some day, that I would be there for her, and that I hoped you would be, too.
I stand by that statement.
Whether she stands up to run for county executive, or something even bigger, Shalonda Webb is the type of leader we deserve.
